Get this…a man is now being charged with 1st degree murder and another for assault, all for attempted robbery in a Medical Marijuana Dispensary! In my opinion that’s outrageous! Marijuana is said to be the “Gateway Drug,” but whatever happened to peace, love, and happiness for all? At the same time, there is the 1st medical cannabis Jury Victory in Boulder County, a case that will certainly go down in the history books.

Colorado is unquestionably carving history and leading the way as far as Medical Marijuana. Even the Westword is making Global news, reaching as far as China and Australia! While the Westword is making Global news, most news papers are failing. My patients constantly mention that they receive texts and emails from their friends in Chicago, NYC, and Florida , just to name a few, asking “What’s going on in Colorado?”

Colorado’s Legislature goes back into session next Wednesday, January 13th and I’m certain that Medical Marijuana and Marijuana Dispensaries will be a hot topic for discussion. Caregiver laws, rights, and responsibilities will most likely be the hottest piece of the discussion. Furthermore, regulating Edibles/Tinctures, how, and where they are made for patients. We may also see taxes implemented by the end of the session.

Read the proposed ordinance @ www.DenverGov.org – Public Comment regarding this ordinance can be made at the City and County building on January 11th @ 5pm.

Additionally, the “OFF THE STEPS & INTO THE HOUSE” Rally 11:30-2:00pm is on January 14, 2010 Rally Sponsored by Mile High NORML

Some states are now seeking to implement a 15% sales tax per gram. Now the question is if we will we see this in Colorado or not. It’s certainly hard to say. Other states are looking to have Medical Marijuana sold in liquor stores, but that seems like it could contradictory towards everything that it‘s about.

The Feds are trying to reduce possession penalties for those carrying any amount of marijuana. A new revolution to this has begun and Colorado is on the global map and because of the DENVER POST on Sunday, Colorado is the Pot Capital of the U.S. and likely to have more medical marijuana dispensaries than Starbucks! It’s becoming known as “The New Gold Rush of the West.”

Furthermore, if you’ve been keeping up with any local news here in Denver, apparently it’s “said to be legal” to become an Ordained Cannabis Minister, underneath 1st amendment rights of the constitution. As a religious establishment in Boulder, there is an Ordained Cannabis Minister. He is the only one in Colorado to be following a Religious or Spiritual belief. WHAT? Receiving a certificate as an Ordained Minister? Not so much.

Smoking in the name of God? Yes, I understand, but this does not make a certificate for an Ordained Cannabis Minister legal. There are laws in place. And Colorado’s Attorney General states “You don’t have a prayer!” Know your rights. Just don’t listen to anyone on the street. Although, other states like Hawaii and California have similar “certificates” this does not make it a legal act. Except, an Ordained Minister will tell you that; “Cannabis sacraments are mandated by your religion for baptism, communion, healing & spiritual, unity!”

Seemingly, many have mixed opinions about “Drugs.” Drugs don’t have to be illegal to hold one another accountable for their actions. As it’s much easier for children to get marijuana than alcohol and it’s the illegal drug money that’s causing them harm.

We’ve watched athletes, such as Michael Phelps getting himself into trouble, and he’s an Olympian. Not only that, he’s a strong roll model for young children. What a shame!

Ultimately, the Drug war has failed and as previously mentioned, it’s said that Marijuana is the  “Gateway Drug.” However, we’re all to quick to forget about all the other drugs that are already readily available for anyone at anytime such as nicotine, caffeine, sugar, even alcohol, not to mention Prescription drugs.

How much control can law enforcement have? Now we’re trying to regulate personal behavior…Prohibition of Alcohol didn’t work. Regulating Religion didn’t work. So, what’s next?

We all know that the famous Steven Baldwin is against marijuana, as he feels that the number of deaths is going to increase. Just to be able to tax Medical Marijuana, ultimately is it worth it for individuals to be impaired under any substance that alters your state of mind? It’s a matter of opinion. Driving under the influence of Alcohol but now the use of Marijuana? Please, keep an open mind. Marijuana for any of used for medicinal purposes while others use it illegally under Federal Law. Although, it was legal from 1860-1937! And its still one of the most widely used illicit drugs in the world.

Just some thoughts and facts from:
